Reflection of my learning experience and challenges from MS3123

MS3123 is a unique course compared with another course I have registered in CityU. Since it provides tons of case studies, I get chances to learn through understanding the company case that I received and I can learn some tools and some operation concepts during the case study.

I remember that the first lesson is about service design which the case study is salads top, and It has been eye-opening since I didn't notice that the layout design of a shop can be that important. Also by knowing the persona and target customer, setting up a comprehensive shop layout can enhance business profit. Since the first lesson, since then I have focused on every lesson since I was attracted by the course content.

I have learnt deep knowledge about production planning, warehouse management, inventory management demand forecast, Quality management, Linear Programming, etc. I have learned tons of useful tools and concepts from this course, such as the fishbone diagram, affinity diagram, and Pareto diagram. 

However, I have faced some challenges along my learning process, I think the lecture about learning linear programs is very difficult for me since I am a 'computer nerd' who is very poor at using excel and spreadsheets. It takes a tremendous of time to finish the in-class exercise, but luckily with the clear guideline provided by the professor, I can follow them step by step and do my work. Although is challenging, it is a great chance to learn something that I really need to use in real life. Another challenge is the final group project since it is a case study about mask production and I have no idea about it. But it is the real assignment that I learn about teamwork in operation management, as everyone in my group plays the role of mask company manager and we have divided tasks and work very hard in our power point and at last, we did pretty well in our presentation.

Although I think this course overall is amazing since it also provides chances for me to use Moodie Ai to practice my presenting skills and Dr. Fan always gives useful feedback after my group presentation. It is kind of unlucky that due to Covid 19, the company visit trip is canceled and the tour company has also been deleted from the schedule, I think it would be a valuable experience for me to learn more by participating in the backstage one company.
